Designing layouts for printing is of course very different from designing websites. It involves a different colour mode and a very precise approach to arranging items on the page.
For layout design I use Quark Xpress, a very versatile program, and Photoshop for processing images.
My experience covers a wide range of printed material including leaflets, magazines, newsletters and event programmes.
Printed media and websites can be designed to complement each other very effectively in publicising businesses and events or sharing news and information, sharing key features like logos and colour schemes.
Layouts designed for printing can also be used to produce documents for electronic distribution (PDFs) which can be circulated as email attachments or uploaded to a server and linked from web pages, emails and other digital media.
